Meow Chef: My First Cooking Adventure

Meow there! I’m Dodo, an American Shorthair living in Apartment 7. Today I want to share an exciting moment with you: my first time cooking!
Here’s what happened – my human went on a business trip yesterday and left me alone at home. But guess what? They forgot to open a can of food for me! This was the biggest crisis of my cat life! As a smart kitty, I decided to take matters into my own paws.
Getting the Ingredients
First, I have to thank my precious paws. Usually, they only play with yarn balls and scratch posts, but in this emergency, they managed to open the fridge! (Yeah, I admit I’ve been secretly practicing)
Let’s see what we have in the fridge:
- Oh! My favorite salmon slices (humans say they need to be thawed, but frozen is fine by me)
- A box of shrimp (nice!)
- Some veggies (well, even though I’m a meat lover, I need fiber sometimes)

Creative Cooking
As a cat chef with high standards, I decided to make an innovative dish: “Cat-Style Seafood Platter”!
Step one: Opening that silver container (I think humans call it “food storage box”). This was tricky, but after 30 minutes of struggle, I finally got it open with my teeth! Winner winner, seafood dinner!
Step two: Prep work. I used my signature “cat paw chopping technique” to smash the salmon into small pieces. It might look messy, but trust me, it brings out the flavor!
Step three: Seasoning time! I remember my human always adds some white powder when cooking. Found it! This cylindrical white stuff (later I found out it was sugar, not salt…). I scooped up a big pawful and sprinkled it on top.
Step four: Plating! This is crucial. I carefully picked out my human’s favorite white plate (hope they won’t notice the paw prints) and arranged everything in my most elegant style:
- Bottom layer: my paw-smashed salmon
- Middle: several pieces of shrimp
- Top: um… decorated with a cat hair that accidentally fell in (that’s a limited edition garnish!)

Taste Test
As a professional food critic cat, I must have high standards.
First bite: Mmm! The salmon is perfectly fresh! Though it’s a bit mangled from my paw-chopping, that’s just my signature cat chef style.
Second bite: The shrimp texture is nice, just a bit icy, but we cats don’t mind that.
Third bite: That cat hair that accidentally mixed in… well, let’s just call it extra fiber.
Special Tips
Fellow cats, please note these points when trying to cook:
- Use your paws to open the fridge, don’t headbutt it – trust me, I tried and it hurts
- Choose ingredients you can eat raw, since we haven’t evolved to use the stove yet
- Plate elegantly – we’re sophisticated cats after all
- If you spill anything, remember to hide the evidence under the sofa (years of experience here)
Afterthoughts
Actually, after making this meal, I kind of miss the cat food my human prepares for me. Though I always complain about those dry kibbles, at least I didn’t have to make them myself.
But I’m still proud! I proved that cats can do more than just “meow” – we can make proper meals too! Even if they’re a bit… different from human standards.
Alright, time for my afternoon nap. Oh, and human, if you’re reading this, the missing food from the fridge wasn’t me – must have been a mouse that got in…
Meow out! 🐾
